Linda Ronstadt is decidedly not schlager, in the purely German sense - but she is a fellow German/American and probably one of the greatest pop music stars, and most wonderful female singers of all-time.
She is 71 now and in very poor health. Her Parkinson's Disease renders her unable to sing anymore, so we thought it important to chronicle her stellar musical career right now.
Linda Ronstadt was born in Tuscon, Arizona - the great-granddaughter of an early German/American Arizona settler, from Hanover, Germany, Friedrich August Ronstadt and the daughter of US machinery entrepreneur, Gilbert Ronstadt.
Her millionaire maternal grandfather, German/ American, Lloyd Groff Copeman, invented the electric stove, the grease gun and an early form of the microwave oven.
After attending prep school in Arizona, Linda Ronstadt briefly attended Arizona State University, before dropping out to pursue her real love - music.
It was a good career decision.
With one of the most powerfully mellifluous voices on the American pop music scene, Linda Ronstadt - over the course of a 4 decade career - achieved so many US and international musical accolades, that there really isn't room here to chronicle them all.
She sold more than 100 million albums over the course of her career - 37 of them hit the US charts, ten went into the Billboard top-ten and 3 went to #1.
She has won so many Grammy awards and Country Music Awards, that it would take many paragraphs to chronicle them all.
She performed on-stage with such American pop and Country legends, as Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, the Eagles, Tom Petty, Neil Young and Bette Midler - among many, many others.
She was inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame in 2014
We can't find words to describe the wonderful power and style of Linda Ronstadt's voice, so we'll just have to let you experience it for yourself.
