A Tale of 2 Schlager Girls: Shania Twain in Chicago & Helene Fischer in Berlin

It is so common that it is becoming tedious - but we are  constantly being asked "Is there American schlager?"

Well, you bet there is -- It is what  we customarily call Country and Western music. And as Germanic schlager has moved more and more into the mainstream pop Germanic culture -- American C&W US music has likewise moved into the realm of "New Country" -- rather a fusion of traditional C&W and pop -- They're really beginning to look more and more the same - albeit in different languages.

If you doubt that, then, just look at these juxtaposed clips from outdoor open air concerts - both within a decade of each other in 2003 and 2013 respectively.

The 1st three singles are by the Canadian, international superstar, Shania Twain, as she performed before more than 100,000 Americans in Chicago's Grant Park in the summer of 2003.

The other is a full concert by German schlager superstar, Helene Fischer, when she performed at an open-air concert before 40,000 Germans, in Berlin, in 2013.

They are both very beautiful and talented women.

We'll have to let you decide who comes out on top.

Here is the German schlager superstar, Helene Fischer,  performing a decade later in Berlin. She parlays a variety of - mostly American - (Bellamy Brothers, Arlo Guthrie, Gloria Gaynor) pop hits of the disco era, transformed into German:
